Hennessy held their first artistry event of 2014 and it was nothing but pure awesomeness. The Hennessy artistry series is known for bringing big names like DJ Premiere and mixing it up with local Toronto artists like Glenn Lewis. This time the series took the things to the next level by having the legendary Questlove perform… without his drums! For that night he went by DJ Questlove and replaced his drums with some turntables.

When I found out that Questlove will being doing a live DJ set at Tattoo I knew right away I had to see him because of his vast knowledge and love for all genres in music. Before he even stepped out the crowd was enjoying the sounds of violinist Yosvani, Toronto’s rising artist Adria Kain, and DJ Dlux who did a great job stirring up crowd.

Questlove’s set on the other was nothing but pure greatness. For three hours straight, he dug through his deep catalogue of records and mashed up everything and anything. At one point the sold out crowd didn’t know how to handle all the music so (because of his ego) Questlove got on the mic and tried to get everyone moving. With my Hennessy in one hand and the other in the air, I grooved with Quest and I didn’t want him to stop! I loved it when he would mix something like Jamiroquai with Kanye West.

I can’t wait to see who Hennessy will be bringing for their next artistry series!

While Drake spends his days in the east, PARTYNEXTDOOR prefers to hang out west in Sauga city (Mississauga). Just when I though this beat couldn’t get better, PARTYNEXTDOOR muuuuurred this track. I am really excited for his new project!

If you don’t know who MNEK by now then it’s a good time to start listening to his music. He’s been busy last year working on classic records with Duke Dumont, Rudimental, and Gorgon City but now it’s ready for him to take things solo. Every Little Word is the first single from the 19-year-old. It has that new jack swing, house, and drum and bass sound to it which is sooooo MNEK. I love the single and I can’t wait until he drops more music.

Hennessy Artistry QUESTLOVE

On Thursday April 17th, Hennessy artistry presents world-renowned DJ Questlove from the Grammy Award winning band The Roots, with Toronto Artists; Adria Kain, violinist Yosvani and DJ Lux and hosted by the 1LoveTO fellows. Hennessy artistry blends the best in music, bars and drinks to create an unforgettable experience for audiences all over the world.

I am excited to hear what Questlove has piled together for this night. He has so many records and knowledge of all the genres, so it’s going to be epic!

You can purchase tickets online, but hurry because this will sell out fast:

The event takes place on Thursday, April 17th at 9pm inside Tattoo (567 Queen Street West).

Straight from and for the 416, Drake gives us another hot record. Produced by PARTYNEXTDOOR and 40, Days In The East is the sound of Toronto. This record kind of reminded me of his Club Paradise record, which I loved.

I swear, Drake doesn’t sleep. The guy just keeps working! After finishing his Would You Like A Tour overseas, Drake is taking a “rest” in Toronto. I guess being away from home got him hungry again because he just boooooooodied on Draft Day. It’s awesome that he is still dropping tracks for free even though he can sell millions with one verse.
